Dear Parents                                                                           12th March 2009

 Spring news letter

A very belated Happy New Year to you all. We are already well into March and have survived the snow. I thank you all for your support during the bad weather which helped us to stay open for business. The Blog proved very useful in helping to keep parents updated on weather and conditions around the nursery.

Staff

Laura Boultwood has taken on the role of Acting Nursery Manager. She has taken on much of my role allowing me to concentrate on the business and accounts side of the nursery. Rebecca has left us and we have been joined by Jessica Mitchell in the baby room and Carly Bird (who joined us in January) in the Rumpleteasers room.

Blog

Amanda has done a brilliant job of getting the Blog back up and running. It has had a face lift giving it a new look and has regular updates of news and events, with book reviews, art work and photographs. Much of the Blog is password protected if you need the password please ask Amanda. We welcome feedback on the Blog so please add your comments and suggestions.

Fees

Once again Hayley and I have decided to postpone our annual fee increase until later in the year.

Funding

The funding for three year olds will increase from April from £3.71 per hour to £3.79 per hour. If your child is eligible for funding, you will notice a small change in your fees from next month. Please change your payments accordingly.

 Garden

We have an ongoing project to enhance the garden area and are looking to obtain some large tyres for the children to play on. If anyone has any ideas where we can get them from please let us know

Nursery clothes.

As we are spending more time outside now that the weather is slightly better please ensure your child has a complete change of clothes on their peg (Remember that plastic carrier bags are not permitted in nursery) as well as wellington boots and a pair of indoor shoes or slippers.

 Times

There has a been an increase on late collections and early drop offs recently. The early mornings and late evenings is a time that is catered for on an individual basis and staffed according to need. By dropping your child off early or picking them up late you impact on staff ratios and place the nursery at risk of breaching our regulations. If you are going to be late please inform the nursery so that we can allow for staff to stay late and invoice you accordingly.

Smelly Bill

By Daniel Postgate

ISBN : 9781845390594

Smelly Bill is a brilliant book for children to enjoy. Its fast/quick pace of rhyming words will keep children’s attention and help develop communication, language and literacy skills.

This funny tale will have children laughing, and even the adults.

The story involves a families aim to get their smelly dog into the bath. Children will be able to relate to personal experiences and it’s a great book for asking open ended questions.

Physical Play Day

Everyday 1 Comment »

The children enjoyed a fun filled day of physical play on 20th January 2010. We experimented with moving our bodies and creating different shapes.

As well as gross motor skills the children also took part in fine motor activities such as pegs and boards and puzzles.

Harlow Star attended and we await the article to be published.

“Every Parent Matters explains ways in which practitioners can assist parents in helping children learn, enjoy and achieve. It sets out what we are doing to promote the development of services for parents and in encouraging them to get involved in shaping services for themselves and their children.”
