Security Lights.

Everyday, Operational Plan No Comments »

Thank you to those parents who have pointed out the problems with the security lights on the rear of the building. We have reported this to our Landlords but it appears that this is not just a simple bulb changing exercise. There is a cabling problem which needs a costly repair. Whilst the work has been authorised, our Landlords are unable to tell us when the repair will be carried out.

As the nights are so dark now, if you feel more comfortable, please feel free to use the main entrance instead. Hopefully, the works will be completed sooner rather than later.

Strangers Policy (Includes Forced Entry)

Strangers Policy

 

In the event of somebody unfamiliar coming to the nursery to collect a child or visit a member of the staff team, you should always follow this procedure:

 

DO NOT LET A STRANGER INTO THE BUILDING UNTIL THEIR IDENTITY HAS BEEN CONFIRMED.

 

  • Ask the full name of the child that wish to collect or to fully state the nature of their visit.
  • Most official visitors carry identification cards. Ask to see this.
  • Check the messages board for parental consent
  • Check the office diary for confirmation of an appointment
  • Check with other staff members in case they are aware of a different collector or a planned visit
  • Where appropriate, ask for a pre-arranged password
  • If you still unsure contact the child’s parents or ask a visitor to re-schedule their appointment.

 

IF YOU ARE EVER IN ANY DOUBT OF SOMEONES CREDIBILTY, POLITELY ASK THEM TO REMAIN OUTSIDE WHILE YOU CONSULT WITH A MEMBER OF THE MANAGEMENT TEAM.

 

Forced Entry

In the event that an intruder should force entry into the building, it is important to gain help as quickly as possible. Never risk your own safety but try to alert other team members as quickly as possible by shouting for help.

 

The situation will be managed by the most senior member of staff available and will begin by simply asking the intruder to leave the building. Upon refusal, suggest moving the intruder into a safe space such as the office or staff room to continue discussion. The agreed code word will be used to alert other staff to call the police.

 

In the event that the intruder poses an immediate threat to the welfare of staff or children, break a fire glass to sound the fire alarm and as far as possible, carry out the emergency evacuation procedure. Notify the police and the landlords (the school office) as quickly as possible of the situation.

Roles and New Staff at Rum Tum’s

Part of Laura Boultwood’s professional development saw her change roles in September to take on the challenge of leadership of the Toddler Tugger’s Room. Since then, Jil and I have been actively seeking a suitable leader for the Rumpleteazers room.

Vacancies are advertised externally and suitable candidates are also sort from our existing team. I’m pleased to say that our new room leader will be Sharon Nicoll. Prior to fronting our baby room, Sharon has managed other nurseries and has worked predominantly with this exciting age group. Jil and I are looking forward to working alongside Sharon as she puts her stamp on this age group.

Clearly, this leaves a vacancy in the baby room. Jil and I are delighted to be welcoming Laura Cook to our team to take on this role. Laura has superb Level III qualifications and is a graduate of the Norland College for Nannies. Her CV is a pleasure to read and shows a wonderful array of experience with babies. Laura has already begun a few sessions with us to become familiar with the workings of the room, the babies unique routines and familiarisation with the nursery team. She takes on her full time role in the week commencing 3rd November. Welcome to the team Laura!!

Up-date on Amanda

Jil met with Amanda today. We are pleased to say she looks and sounds much better. Amanda really wants to be back at work on Monday but we’re awaiting confirmation from her GP to give her the all clear.

Amanda’s absence has meant a high degree of relief staff working with the Mungojerries in the past month. This is never ideal but clearly we need to maintain the staff to child ratios set by Ofsted. I would like to thank all parents for their co operation and understanding at this time but especially like to thank Lauren, Anneliese and Jes for holding the fort for Amanda.

Healthy Food Policy

 

At Rum Tum Tugger’s Nursery, we are committed to providing children in our care with healthy snacks and meals; catering for children with special dietary requirements, parental preferences and for those with allergies and intolerances. Our menus are designed to be low in salt and sugar and to have low allergens.
