Learning Through Rhymes and Songs

4 March, 2014. posted in Everyday.

Happy Monday all,

Welcome back to our series on how we can help our children at home. This weeks focus is on using nursery rhymes are a tool for learning. Children learn best of all through play and repetition. When it is fun, they are unaware that it is actually work. And nursery rhymes are a great way to teach children. Use rhyme and song and encourage your child to join in as much as possible.

If you don’t know¬† many nursery rhymes as yet, YouTube has plenty of videos. And the local pound shops sometimes have nursery rhyme CD available.

(disclaimer: The Link above is a playlist of English nursery rhyme. I personally would not have included rhyme number 5: There was an old lady who swallowed a fly. Please listen to it and make judgement on whether to play it for your child.)

The Mini-Challenge: At home, I…

1. For this week, as well as your favorite nurseries, introduce a new one.

2. Note your child’s reaction to learning a new song.

3. Write this on a Wow-voucher to put in your child’s learning journey.

Do you know any nursery rhymes in a different language, please share in the comments below.  Thank you.
